Life Legacy

Nathan E. Morrell, 89, Watertown, passed away March 6, 2013 at the Samaritan Medical Center where he had been a patient for a short time.

Born in Manchester, NH January 14, 1924, he was a son to Nathan B. and Wiona Foote Morrell. During high school, Nate was a member of the original ski class of Hannes Schneider at Cranmore Mountain, North Conway, NH. Following graduation, Nate enlisted in the United States Army, training at Camp Hale, Colorado, and later fighting in Italy during World War II with the original 10th Mountain Division. He would later go on to serve as a medic in the Korean War. He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart, and 2 Bronze Stars.

Following his discharge, Nate worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker in New Hampshire. He moved to New York in 1967, where he owned a variety of businesses; namely NOMCO & THUMP. In his later years, he was President of the 10th Mountain Division Association, and was heavily involved in the 10th Mountain Military Monument. Most recently he was involved with Project Fallen Warrior Monument, which will be unveiling upon completion later this year.

Nate is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Morrell, New Hampshire; a sister, Marion Owen; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Robert S., passed before him.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 9, 1:00pm at the Riva Ridge Chapel, Ft. Drum. There are no calling hours. A family graveside will be held at a later date in Conway, NH.
