Junior William Bedor of Flat Rock West, Henderson Harbor, passed away on October 24, 2012 at Samaritan Medical Center. He was born in the Town of Brownville on May 7, 1928 to Joseph Allan Bedor and Sarah Violet Fulkerson Bedor. Junior graduated from LaFargeville Central School in 1945 and married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Gailey on August 17, 1949 at Stone Mills Methodist Church.
The newlyweds owned and operated a dairy farm on Carter Street in Stone Mills. In 1962, they purchased Valley Park Farm in Adams which they operated for over 40 years. He also developed a portion of the farm into residential housing in later years. In addition, he owned and operated J.W. Bedor Bulk Milk Service and Valley Park Farm U-Pick Strawberries for nearly 20 years.
Junior served in leadership positions for many business and community organizations. He was a founding director and secretary/treasurer of Jefferson Bulk Milk Coop, later serving as president. He served on the South Jefferson Central School Board for several years and took prominent roles in each church he attended throughout his life. In 1964, Junior was honored by the New York State Junior Chamber of Commerce as one of five Outstanding Young Farmers in the state.
Junior enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and boating. He pursued the study of advanced nautical navigation as an active member and officer of the Watertown chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron.
Junior is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy, four daughters and their husbands: Carol and Michael Balk of Tempe, AZ; Shirley and Joseph Ortego of Garden City, NY; Jill and Kerry Kistler of Springfield, MO; and Nancy and Donald Snyder of Cooperstown, NY as well as thirteen grandchildren: David, Jay, Ben and Sam Balk; Alexandra and Juliana Ortego; Sarah Kistler (Tristan) Fry, Justin (Georgina) Kistler, Jeremy and Christy Kistler; Dylan, Jennifer and Amanda Snyder; and a great-granddaughter, Katherine Kistler.
Junior, the oldest of eleven children, is also survived by brothers Mervin (MaryAnn), FL; Wilbur (Erika), FL; and Gary, MT; and sisters Audrey (Clyde) Haller, Adams; Carolyn (Al) Sheldon, Copenhagen; Susan Rudich, Dewitt; Jean Bedor, Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Marjorie, two brothers, Willis and Frederick, and a great grandson, Logan Balk, died before him.
A celebration of Junior's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, October 27th at Life Church of the Nazarene, 535 Thompson Blvd., Watertown. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville.
