Our History

Reed & Benoit was established in September 1945 when F. Herbert Benoit returned from Navy service to join Mrs. Gertrude E. Reed Northside Funeral Home, located at 611 Mill Street, and established in 1927 by Mrs. Reed's late husband, Ora B. In November of 1946, Mrs. Reed and Mr. Benoit moved from Mill Street to the present State Street location. After Mrs. Reed's death in 1958, Mr. Benoit continued operation of the funeral home until his retirement in 1989 when the firm was purchased by its current owner/manager, C. William Stoodley, Jr.. Mr. Stoodley, a fifth-generation funeral director, has been associated with Reed & Benoit since 1979 and continues to carry out services and other arrangements with the same dignity and genuine concern as in the past.

Directions to Reed & Benoit

Traveling from the South: Route 81 North - exit 44, turn left at the end of the ramp, at stop sign turn right onto Rt. 232, left onto Rt. 11 in Watertown Center. Rt. 11 - Washington St. to third traffic light, turn right onto Winslow St., straight across Gotham, Franklin, and Academy St. to traffic light on State St., turn right at A-Plus Mini Market, we are the third building on the right. (632 State St.)


Traveling from the North: Route 81 South - exit 45, turn left onto Arensal St. follow the signs for Rt. 12 and 126, also follow signs for the zoo. Go around Public Square, to the right of the Baptist Church with a clock in the tower, up State St. Past A-Plus Mini Market on the corner of State and William St., we are the third building on the right (632 State St.)



Traveling from the North: Route 11 South - to LeRay St. turns into Massey St. at the Court St. Bridge, take a left onto Arsenal St. by Rite Aid Store, follow signs for the zoo, around Public Square, to the right of the Baptist Church, with a clock in the tower, up State St. past A-Plus Mini Market on the corner of State and William St., we are the third building on the right (632 State St.)
