Donald R. Williams

Donald R. Williams 66, of County Route 53, Watertown, died Tuesday evening at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Williams was born July 8, 1942 in Watertown to Clarence E. and Reda Rose Williams. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1960. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served a total of 22 years active and reserves. Mr. Williams was a mechanic at Northrup Motors, Quick Motors and Kittle Ford before becoming Director of Logistics at Fort Drum from 1977-1989. He later worked for GSA on Fort drum as fleet manager until his retirement in 2002.

He married Arlene Labiendo June 19, 1965 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Watertown.

Mr. Williams was an avid boatman on the St. Lawrence River since childhood; he enjoyed making furniture, classic cars, hot rods and traveling to Florida.

Mr. Williams was a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church, U.S. Boston Shipmates, a lifemember of VFW post 1400 and Watertown Elks. He was also a member of Watertown Eagles, Brownville American Legion #588 and the Northside Improvement League.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons and a daughter- in- law, Christopher W., Watertown and Terry and Sarah, Oswego, one granddaughter Brenna Williams, Oswego, two sisters and their husbands Janice and Donald Thomas, Lakeland, Fl., Deborah and Bruce Palmer, Valrico, Fl., a brother and his wife Michael and Patricia, Watertown, three cousins and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Saturday 10am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Farr Emmanuel Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Friday from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at the funeral home.
