Lester F. “Booner” Cooley, Jr., 78, of 22812 Boyd Rd., died Tuesday evening at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson Co.
Mr. Cooley was a farmer all his life working in the Town of Ellisburg, Alexandria Bay and Depauville.
He was born in the Town of Ellisburg, May 31, 1929, a son of Lester F. and Leanora Palmer Cooley, Sr. He attended schools in the Town of Alexandria. Mr. Cooley was a member of the Carthage Lions Club and at the time of his death was the president of the Visually Impaired Support Group in Carthage.
Mr. Cooley enjoyed fishing, gardening and repairing bicycles out of his shop. He was an avid CB radio user and his handle was “Booner”. He never married.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Rita Cooley, Florida. A sister and brother-in-law, Betty and John Hilts, Hannibal. Several nieces and nephews. 2 sisters, Alta Maitland and Ida Monaghan predeceased him.
The funeral will be Saturday 1pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, with Capt. Evelyn Hopping of the Salvation Army officiating. Spring burial will be in Adams Rural Cemetery.
