The funeral for Kay H. Abell will be Friday 1pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jerome Wichelns, rector officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4p – 7pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 314 Clay St., Watertown, NY 13601.
Mrs. Abell, 72, of Rutland Place, died Sunday evening at her home.
She was born in Oneonta, April 1, 1935, a daughter of Leslie and Lois Dodge Hammond. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1953. She married Eugene E. Abell May 18, 1957 at St. Mark’s and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Rochester.
Mrs. Abell worked for Chapin’s Florist and later as a machinist at Chapin’s Watermatics for many years retiring due to ill health.
Mrs. Abell was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the church’s Bible study and Cursillo group at the church. She enjoyed doing crossword and soduku puzzles, and reading. She belonged to TOPS and served as the New York State Queen and the 1976 International Queen.
Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 sons and their wives, David and Doreen, Yorkville, Kenneth and Michele, Watertown. 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her twin sister, Sue Pardy, Norfolk, Va. Her brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Elaine Hammond, Hampton, Va. 2 nieces. Her brother-in-law, James Pardy, predeceased her.
