The funeral for Bernice L. Tanner will be Monday 7pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Don Drew, pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4p – 7pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tanner, 80, of 230 E. Main St., died Friday at Samaritan Medical Center.
She was born in Watertown, August 7, 1927, a daughter of George W. and Ruth A. Towle Belcher. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1945. She married Ralph J. Tanner, Sr., September 17, 1945. Mrs. Tanner was employed at M.H. Fishman’s Store on Court St. for several years before going to work in the stockroom at JC Penny’s. She transferred to floor clerk at JC Penny’s before going to the business office where she remained until her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Tanner enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Besides her husband of 62 years, she is survived by a son, Ralph J. Jr., Newton Falls. A daughter, Patricia A. Tanner, Constantia. A grandson and his wife, Philip and Tammy Tanner, Copenhagen, and a granddaughter, Tina Tanner, Oswegatchie. 4 great grandchildren. 2 sisters, Rena Keiser, Bernards Bay, and Frances LaJuette, Titusville, FL. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Sharon on September 28, 2006, 4 brothers, Floyd, Harvey, James and William Belcher, and a sister, Pauline Simmons.
