Allen Brown, Jr. The funeral for Allen Brown, Jr. will be Friday 1 pm at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Reff, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery with military honors. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown, 56, of Outer Arsenal St., died Sunday at the Samaritan Medical Center from respiratory failure.

He was born in Vallejo, CA, March 15, 1951, a son of Allen and Susie Brown, Sr. He was educated in California schools. Mr. Brown served 22 years in the US Army, 11 of those years overseas including tours in Vietnam. Among many medals and citations, he received the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation W/Palm, as well as several others.

Following his honorable discharge from the military, he worked as a corrections officer in Lewis County, and was a long distance truck driver for Snyder Trucking Co. of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. until becoming injured in a job related accident. He entered college and graduated from Jefferson Community College with an associate’s degree in accounting and received his bachelor’s degree from Oswego State in Public Justice.

After completing his education, Mr. Brown went to work as a counselor for the North Country Center for Independent Living and student taught. He was later an instructor at the Battle Simulation Center on Fort Drum retiring in 2004 due to disability. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

He married Rominia Longmire, July 22, 1972.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 sons, Kevin, California, Curtis, Nathan, and Andre, all of Watertown. 12 grandchildren. A brother, Lionel, California. A sister, Betty Brown-Shaw, California. Several nieces and nephews.
