Leon C. Sawyer

Leon C. Sawyer, 67, of 454 Mill St., Skyline Apts., died Wednesday morning at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where he was a resident for a short time. He was transferred from University Hospital in Syracuse.

Mr. Sawyer was a truck driver for the Salvation Army retiring several years ago due to disability.

He was born in Watertown, April 20, 1940, a son of Leonard and Katherine Perigo Sawyer. He was educated in local schools. He married Sharon Mehaffy March 8, 1975 in the chapel of the Salvation Army in Watertown. Mr. Sawyer enjoyed fishing, puzzles, camping and walking.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and his companion, Leon C., Jr. and Celeste Maruhn, Homestead, FL. A brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Shirley, Black River. A sister, Julia Mansilla, Asbury Park, NJ. Nieces and nephews. A son Joseph died at age 14.

A memorial service will be Saturday 2pm in the community room at 454 Mill St., Skyline Apts., with Capt. Evelyn Hopping of the Salvation Army, officiating. Burial will be in Sanford Corners Cemetery following cremation.
