Laurence C. Kingsbury, 87, of Weaver Rd., died Sunday evening at Mercy of Northern New York.
Mr. Kingsbury was a retired postal clerk at the Watertown Post Office Annex in the Town of Pamelia for many years upon retirement in October of 1982. Prior to his career with the Post Office, he worked for the Hartman Ice Co. and Loblaw’s Supermarket both of Watertown.
He was born in Watertown, September 24, 1920, a son of Leon and Lula Sutherland Kingsbury. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1939, and served with the Civilian Conservation Corps at Pine Camp from 1939-1940. He joined the US Army Air Force in 1943, serving as a Gunner Trainer on the B-17’s while stationed in Texas. He was honorably discharged ranked Sergeant in 1946.
Mr. Kingsbury married Leah Rueb October 2, 1945 in Texas. Mrs. Kingsbury died at the age of 61 July 23, 1984. He then married Lucille Grimm December 20, 1986.
He loved the outdoors especially bike riding, walking, and gardening. He also enjoyed, reading and was an avid sports fan.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, 2 daughters, a daughter in-law, and son-in- law. Richard R., and wife Connie Sackets Harbor, Robert L., Watertown, David C., Scipio Center, Marjorie E. Flanagan, Holland Pa., Alice Carr and husband Carl Carr, Watertown. Mr. Kingsbury also has 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A step- son Garnet Grimm, West Carthage, a step-daughter and her husband Connie and Tom Baker, Puyallup, WA, 4 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. A brother, Ray, Mt. Pelier, VT. Nieces and nephews. A brother Alfred predeceased him.
The funeral will be Thursday 11 am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Wilson, pastor of the Smithville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery following the services. There are no calling hours.
