Joan S. Hamilton Joan S. Hamilton, 70, of 170 Conger Ave., St. Anthony’s Apts., Watertown and formerly of Henderson, died Thursday night at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had resided since December 3rd of 2007.

Mrs. Hamilton was a self-employed livestock farmer in the Gouverneur – Edwards area for many years.

She was born in the Town of Henderson, October 1, 1937, a daughter of Floyd and Elsie Heaslip Smith. She graduated from Henderson Central School in 1955. She married James Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton raised beef cattle, hogs, and goats on their farm in Edwards. They later raised Belgium draft horse’s and Llama’s. Mr. Hamilton in December of 1999. Mrs. Hamilton moved back to Henderson in 2001.

Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the Gouverneur and Asbury United Methodist Church’s(Watertown) and sang in the churches’ choirs, the Gouverneur VFW auxillary and the Henderson Volunteer Fire Department auxillary. She enjoyed hunting, woodworking and crafts.

She is survived by 3 brothers and a sister-in-law, Harry Smith, Henderson, Dewey Smith, Smithville, Ross and Louise Smith, So. Hill, VA 2 sisters, Shirley Smith, Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, Edith Richmond, Henderson. Many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Gene Smith and 3 sisters, Eleanor Smith at birth, Helen Rendleman and Joyce smith.

The funeral will be Monday 1pm at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Spring burial will be in Smithville Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 1p – 4pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Asbury UMC, the Impossible Dream, Watertown, or to the Henderson Vol. Fire Dept. ladies auxillary.
