Robert A. Maitland

Robert A. Maitland, Sr., 77, of 7339 Co. Rt. 78, died Tuesday evening at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson Co.

Mr. Maitland was a heavy equipment operator for Zern Nepco, a Pennsylvania based company working in New York. He also operated heavy equipment for Eastman Corporation of Ellisburg, Graham Construction of Watertown, the Town of Ellisburg and for Morgan Williams Excavating of Belleville.

He was born in Henderson, October 1, 1930, a son of Robert and Catherine Richardson Maitland. He graduated from Union Academy Belleville. Mr. Maitland was an avid sports enthusiast playing basketball with several town teams and playing with Hockey clubs throughout New York and Canada.

Mr. Maitland operated a dairy farm from 1967 to 1976 at his current residence. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union.

He married Eleanor Morenus May 27th, 1951.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Robert A., Jr., Henderson, and Christopher R., Lake City, FL. A granddaughter, Melissa Sue Maitland, Philadelphia, a grandson, Christopher R., Henderson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a day and time to be announced at the Belleville Fire Hall. The body will be cremated. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County.
