Gary N. Oatman, 64, of 14154 US Rt 11, died Sunday evening in the emergency room of the Samaritan Medical Center.
Mr. Oatman was a horticulturalist with Sammy’s Florist in Watertown, specializing in plant growth, and studying plant diseases.
He was born in Adams Center, December 30, 1943, a son of Harold and Louise Stokes Oatman. He graduated from Adams Center High School in 1962. He received his associate’s degree from Canton College in 1964 and his bachelor of science in 1966 from Cornell. Upon graduation, he was employed at Cornell University in horticulture research. Mr. Oatman grew and sold fruits and vegetables to the public, many repeat customers, for over 40 years.
He is survived by 4 brothers and 3 sisters-in-law, Allan and Barbara, Adams Center, Robert and Sharon, Adams, Reginald, Watertown, Norman and Janet, Adams Center. A sister, Marilyn Elliott, Adams Center. Several nieces and nephews. A brother Harold, and a sister Yvonne Oatman predeceased him.
The funeral will be held Thursday for the convenience of the family at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Charles Henderson, rector of the Emmanuel-Zion Episcopal Parish’s, of Adams and Pierrepont Manor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours.
