Dorothy A. Smith Dorothy A. Smith 98, of 56 East Church St., died Sunday afternoon in Mercy of Northern New York. She had been a resident at Mercy since August of 2000.

She was born June 25, 1909 in the Town of Stockholm, the daughter of George and Gertrude Compeau, Phelix. She married Irving R. Smith April 5, 1930 in the Clayton Methodist Church with Rev. G.H. Miller officiating. They lived in the Watertown area for nine years before moving to Adams Center in 1939. They moved to Adams in 1976, Mr. Smith died May 12, 1999.

Mrs. Smith did domestic work for several families in the Adams and Adams Center area, she also worked at DeHarts Motel in Adams Center. She was the crossing guard at the Adams Center School on route 11 for many years.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a former member of the Adams Center Fire Department Auxiliary, the Watertown Senior Citizens Club and the New Senior Citizens Club of Watertown.

Survivors include a son, Gary R. of Adams; 2 daughters and their husbands, Carol and Harvey Williams of Adams Center, and Dawn and Robert Johnson of Enterprise, AL; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by 2 sons, Wesley in 1982 and Robert in 2002.

The funeral service will be 3:00PM Wednesday at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Adams Center. A calling hour will be Wednesday 2:00 to 3:00PM, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.
