Jerry D. Thomas 67, of 348 Hadley Road, died Wednesday afternoon, at his home, under the care of his family and Oswego County Hospice.

He was born May 10, 1940 in Adams Center, a son of Clifford and Nettie Taber, Thomas. He was a 1958 graduate of Belleville Central School and married Maryhelen Whitley July 19, 1958 in the Ellisburg Methodist Church with Rev. Budd officiating.

After their marriage he operated the Thomas family dairy farm on Liberty Street, Adams from 1958 until 1969. In 1969 he purchased the Krakau Implements business in Sandy Creek and operated it until 1984 when he sold the business. He was Oswego County Buildings Operations Supervisor from 1991 to 1997 and was the Sandy Creek Central School Superintendant of Buildings and Grounds from 1997 until he retired in 2002.

He was a former member of the Belleville and Sandy Creek Fire Departments, and a former member and former chief of the Lacona Fire Department. He was President of the Oswego County Fair for 10 years and a member and also President in 1997 of the New York State Association of Agricultural County Fairs. He served on the Oswego County Board of Legislators from 1984 to 1991 and from 2004 to 2007.

He is survived by his wife Maryhelen; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Gordon Gibbs of Snellville, GA; 4 sons and 4 daughters-in-law, Dale W. and Danette, Jeffrey D. and Deanna, and Dean H. and Kimberly, all of Sandy Creek, and David G. and Becky of Henderson; a brother and his wife, Stanley and Sue Thomas of Ellisburg; a sister Joan Leitner of Leroy; and 15 grandchildren.

The funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family, there will be no calling hours, and arrangements are with the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
