Florence E. Babcock

Florence E. Babcock 80, of 11271 Bishop Street Road, died Sunday afternoon in Mercy of Northern New York. She had been a resident there since January 12th.

She was born July 23, 1926 in Watertown, a daughter of Samuel and Ellen Clark, Evans. She graduated from Cape Vincent High School in 1943, the first class to graduate from what was, the new school. She married Earl J. Babcock February 17, 1946 in the Cape Vincent Methodist Church with Rev. Rollo D. Pierce officiating.

They lived on Bishop Street where they operated a dairy farm for a few years, Mrs. Babcock was a home maker and a cook on Association Island, Henderson Harbor when it was operated by the Y.M.C.A. of Watertown. She enjoyed country living, gardening, sewing and when she was able to, dancing.

Surviving are her husband, Earl; a daughter and her husband, Beverly and Leon Walts of Adams; a son, Duane of Adams; 4 sisters, Olive Chapman of Cape Vincent, Dorothy Coleman and Helen Ada both of Watertown, and Mary Price of Lorraine, OH; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald, who died December 23, 1972, a daughter-in-law, Paulette Murphy Babcock, 2 sisters, May Loomis and Ada Heaslip, and 2 brothers, Roy and Charles Evans.

The funeral service will be 2:00PM Thursday at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Sharon Satterlee, pastor of the Belleville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
