E. Arlene Whitney, 84, of Harbor View Drive, died Friday in the intensive care unit of the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient for 1 week.
Mrs. Whitney was employed at Balcome’s Hospital Supply and Weston’s, both in Watertown for many years.
She was born in Henderson, May 11, 1922, a daughter of Percy and Idona Moore Green. She graduated from Henderson Central School. She married John J. Whitney October 13, 1943 in Ellisburg. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney lived on the Danley Rd., Henderson, in the house built by Mr. Whitney for many years. Mr. Whitney died November 11, 1990. Mrs. Whitney moved to the Henderson Apartments in 1999.
She was a member of the Henderson United Methodist Church. She was a member and served as historian for the Henderson PTO and was the historian and served on the nominating for the Henderson school apartments. She was a member of the Home Bureau and treasurer for the Henderson Little League. She was affectionately called the “Sunshine Lady” by the tenants at the Henderson Apartments.
Mrs. Whitney is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, John J., Jr. and Gail, Watertown, Jerry W. and Marthe, Henderson. 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday 11am at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Sharon Satterlee, pastor of the Henderson United Methodist Church officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Henderson. Calling hours are Monday from 2p – 4pm and 7p – 9pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Henderson Methodist Church or to the Henderson Volunteer Ambulance Squad.
