David E. VanWormer

The funeral service for David E. VanWormer will be Friday 7pm at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be private following cremation. Calling hours are Friday from 4p – 7pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. VanWormer, 68, of 16380 VanWormer Rd., died Tuesday afternoon at his home.
He was born in Watertown, June 9, 1938, a son of Kenneth and Emily Burden VanWormer. He graduated from Mannsville Manor High School in 1955. Mr. VanWormer worked on the family farm following high school. He served with the US Air Force from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961 and continued to serve in the Army Reserves following his discharge.
Mr. VanWormer was a civilian employee with the US Army at Camp Drum, later Fort Drum from 1967 until retiring in 1992. He received an associate’s degree from Jefferson Community College in 1972 and his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oswego State College in 1982.
He married Geraldine (Geri) Mitchell in Oswego, December 15, 1967. Mr. Van Wormer was a former member of the Mannsville Museum board. He was a participant of the Sampson Air Force Base reunion group. He enjoyed playing golf, genealogy, Bible reading and jigsaw puzzles.
Beside his wife, he is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Angie, Rodman, Gerald and Carla, Mannsville, Kenneth and Heather, Syracuse. 9 grandchildren. A brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth A., Jr. and Charlanne, Harvard, MA. 2 sisters, and a brother-in-law, Charlotte and Herbert Salisbury, Mannsville, Evelyn Crast, Adams. Several nieces and nephews. A sister, Nettie Hale died before him.
