Virginia A. Salter Virginia A. Salter, 82, formerly of NYS Rt 289, Village of Ellisburg, died Saturday morning at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had resided for 5 years.

Miss Salter was a secretary at Union Academy Belleville school from 1947 until retiring in the mid 1980’s.

She was born June 28, 1924 in Watertown a daughter of Floyd and Clara Williams Salter. She graduated from Carthage High School. She lived in Black River for many years before moving to Ellisburg with her parents.

She was a member of the Ellisburg United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers womens group at the church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Ellisburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxillary, and secretary treasurer of the Ellisburg Library. Miss Salter loved to read and did book reviews for the Ellisburg Library which were published in the Jefferson County Journal.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and caregivers Cathy Remington and Eleanor Stacy, both of Ellisburg.

Members of the Belleville Eudora Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service, Monday ( Feb. 26th) 3pm at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. The funeral service will follow the Star service. Spring burial will be in Black River Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Ellisburg United Methodist Church or to the Ellisburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxillary.
