George J. Bigelow

George J. Bigelow 85, of 3895 County Route 6, Oswego, passed away Wednesday afternoon, at his home, under the care of his family, and Oswego County Hospice.

He was born March 29, 1922 in the Town of Ellisburg, as son of George T. and Rose J. Johnson, Bigelow. He graduated from Belleville Central High School in 1940. Mr. Bigelow retired from the New York State Department of Transportation in 1984 after 19 years of service. Previously he had operated a dairy farm in Ellisburg with his wife Jean. He married Jean A. Reed November 7, 1947 in Ellisburg. Mrs. Bigelow passed away May 4, 2004 after 56 years of marriage.

Surviving are 6 children, Diane (Don) Crandall of Mexico, Deborah (Nelson Butler) Colloca of New Haven, Dale (Mary) Bigelow of Mexico, Donna (Bob) Taylor of LaPlata, MD, David (Lynn) Bigelow of Mexico, Doug (Leslie Williams) Bigelow of New Haven and his faithful guardian, Jazz also of New Haven, a sister, Cora Shepard of Watertown, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A remembrance from his family, he had a wonderful sense of humor, and this saying, “The older I got, the wiser my father got”.

A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family, in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville. There will be no calling hours, arrangements are with the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
