Bernard K. Macklen

Bernard K. Macklen 86, of 24530 Macklen Road, died Monday morning in the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. He was admitted to the hospital on April 11th.
He was born in the Town of Worth March 21, 1921, a son of Mark M. and Carlotta Kenfield, Macklen. He graduated from Adams High School in 1940. Following his graduation he started working on the family farm. He married Leona Stillman September 23, 1945 in Lorraine. They operated the family dairy farm until retiring in 1983. During springtime he also operated a sugar bush on his farm.
He was a member of the Lorraine United Methodist Church, the Rodman Masonic Lodge. He was a councilman on the Town Board for the Town of Worth, also Town Historian. The town of Worth representative to the Tug Hill Council, and the Tug Hill Commission designated him the Tug Hill Sage. He served on the Board of Trustees for the Stone Mills Museum, and the South Jefferson Historical Association. He was a former School Trustee for the Town of Worth District Schools, and a former member of the Lorraine Grange, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the Worth Fire Department.
He was honored on the Channel 7 TV show, The North Countries Finest, for his expertise in snow shoe construction.
His hobbies included woodworking, making snow shoes, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Shirley and Robert Weikel of Lorraine, Mary and Noel Trahan of Rodman, and Joan M. Christini of Arlington, VA a sister, Bernice Humphrey of Cape Vincent; 4 grandchildren, Lisa and Julie Trahan, Christopher Weikel, and Amanda Osborne. Nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Baxter Macklen.
The funeral service will be 10:30AM Saturday, at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Mary Drake, pastor of the Lorraine United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Rodman.
Calling hours will be Friday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00PM at the funeral home. The Rodman Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service Friday 7:30PM, at the funeral home.
